As with many Parkinson’s patients there have been times when I wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to get back to sleep. During these periods of interrupted sleep I often find myself thinking of topics that pop into my head. Often times I get so absorbed in the topic that it makes it even more difficult to get to sleep.
I’ve talked to several PD friends who have gone through the Feet to the Fire workshop who recommended writing my thoughts down as a therapeutic way to organize my thoughts and clear my head. In doing so I hope to reduce/eliminate the occurrences of interrupted sleep. I’ve decided to give it a try to see if it helps. As they say, nothing ventured nothing gained.
I’ve also enlisted the help and support of a mentor/guide to help me along my journey into writing. My uncle Jack (PHD in Philosophy and retired Transylvania professor) is serving as my sounding board and companion on this journey. If you are considering a similar endeavor whether it be writing, drawing, painting etc. I recommend finding a partner and/or guide to share the journey with you.
With that as a background I will begin posting my essays. Some will be long, some will be short. Some will be PD related while others will not. I invite anyone reading these posts to join the conversation by leaving your comments. The Your Voice section is intended to be a venue where participation is encouraged. We want this forum to be a dialog – not a monolog. Please feel free to leave your comments and submit postings of your own.
Thanks for joining us on the journey.
